While there hasn’t been much news on this front, Dallara might just be the chassis provider for the new model, making the design even more special.
According to the sketch, the new prototype will have a striking front splitter along with an impressive aero package complete with roof scoop and massive canards. It will also feature minimalist LED headlights and kidney-shaped grilles showing off the BMW logo. While the sketch only shows the front end of the prototype, you can almost make out the wide rear wing which looks very aggressive and elegant.
We can assume with these upcoming models BMW’s M LMDh models will make an appearance in the WEC (World Endurance Championship) and the IMSA car racing series. This can also mean that the German automakers will produce these models to compete for the popular 24-hour Le Mans race.
The new LMDh category vehicles will be a cheaper alternative to the much more expensive LMH (Le Mans Hypercar) variants. While they did use an advanced LMP chassis, they weigh 1,000kgs - something that might be reduced in the new models.
Similar to BMW, Porsche and Audi are set to join the LMDh category in 2023. Both might make an appearance at FIA WEC and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship programs by January 2023.
