Ford set to revive the ‘Lightning’ badge with F-150

Ford’s official announcement states that its all-electric F-150 pickup truck will be the one to revive the ‘Lightning’ badge. It has confirmed that the electric version of the F-150 will be called the ‘F-150 Lightning’. The brand’s new all-electric pickup is all set to make its official debut on May 19 and will be out for sale in 2022.

Previously, the automaker used the Lightning name for the performance-based F-150 that was available in the early 2000s. The car was one of the sportiest, supercharged variants of the F-150. If you’re wondering about this recent trend that has hit the automobile industry, then let us inform you that Ford isn’t the first automaker to do so. Recently, the Mustang had also set an example by borrowing the name for one of its hallowed cars in the mass market, the Mustang Mach-E.

The Lightning logo of the Ford F-150 incorporates a distinctive lightning bolt beneath the letters. Overall, the logo design and placement seem to highlight an EV with a high output.

Now, moving ahead of the name of the offering, the automaker also offered us a look at the front fascia of its upcoming car. The F-150 Lightning is a product of strong styling and design, one that features connected LED DRLs.

Overall, the design resonates with a boxy appeal that might limit the car to a minimalist design feature. However, the presence of some of the most certain EV-centric features along the exterior of the car, like the closed grille and aerodynamic wheels might be able to make up for it.

While there are no heads up on the technical aspects of the car, Ford President and CEO Jim Farley said, “The F-150 Lightning can power your home during an outage; it’s even quicker than the original F-150 Lightning performance truck.”

With such a statement from the CEO himself, we expect nothing but the best from the automaker.
