Ford Raptor

Expectedly, the Ford Raptor comes with the same dashboard layout as that of the Ford Ranger. However, to differentiate it from the latter, Ford has spruced up the cabin with a few changes, which include contrast blue stitching on door panels and seats, different leather upholstery, faux carbon fiber touches on the dashboard and revised instrument console design.

Apart from that, the Ford Raptor comes with the same design for the chunky four-spoke steering wheel and broad center console design with centrally placed touchscreen infotainment system with AC vents on its sides. The cabin is equipped with more special bits like dual-zone automatic climate control, suede sports seats, 8-way powered driver seat, magnesium paddle shifters, cooled glove box, push-button start and rear AC vents.

The Ford Raptor is based on the standard Ranger pickup truck, which itself is one of the finest and muscular looking designs out there. With suspension raisers, high ground clearance and a couple of other additional changes, the Ford Raptor looks even more muscular over the Ranger.

At the front, the Ford Raptor comes with the same design for the front grille as the Ranger. However, here, the front grille is finished completely in black and gets a bold ‘FORD’ lettering across it. The headlamp casings have been shared with the Ranger with the same L-shaped daytime running LEDs, however, the main projectors are HID units here.

The front bumper is completely new here – this all-black plastic bumper is slightly slimmer in size with smaller fog lamps recessed in its corners. However, what adds muscle to the front is the big silver skid plate and bash plate present below the middle of the front bumper.

The side profile of the Ford Raptor, with its high ground clearance and lifted stance for the front bonnet, gives it a tremendous road presence. Adding more muscle to the design here is wheel arch black moldings, which go well with a black finish for the door handles and rearview mirrors. The black finished alloy wheels and fat all-terrain tyres further take its ruggedness to a whole new level. The fenders here also come with squared wheel arches. 

The rear profile of the Ford Raptor looks slightly different from the Ranger – while the vertical tail lamps have been completely shared, the boot lid comes with bold badging embossed on it.

The Ford Raptor comes with a much more sophisticated suspension setup of double wishbone at the front and coilover with FoxRacing Shox dampers at the rear. This suspension setup might feel bouncy on soft tarmacs but is in an altogether different element when the Raptor is driven off the road. The Ford Raptor is capable of conquering the toughest of terrains with utmost precision and speed, thanks to a very capable four-wheel-drive system that comes with shift-on-fly technology and is assisted by multiple drive modes.

The Ford Raptor is powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder bi-turbo diesel engine which is there in the Ranger as well. Here too, the engine makes 213 PS of maximum power and 500 Nm of maximum torque. However, unlike the 6-speed automatic gearbox in the Ranger, the Ford Raptor comes with a more advanced 10-speed automatic gearbox.

The Ford Raptor is equipped with a list of safety features, which feels quite decent for a vehicle of this price. The Raptor comes with front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, rear camera, automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.

The Ford Raptor is bestowed with a tremendous visual appeal and tough mechanicals under its skin. These traits do make it a go-anywhere vehicle with a humongous appeal of a capable off-roader.
