New 2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport announced for Europe

Toyota has finally announced the GR Sport version of its famed Hilux for the European market. Till now, it was only available in Thailand and Japan. Now, it will be available in Europe with some notable additions like driveline components and revised suspension. Let’s see what else is new for this model.

The European Hilux GR Sport will have significant differences from its Thai and Japanese counterparts - at least in terms of designs. The European variant is set to receive black overfenders with a black tailgate handle, side steps, mirror casings, and the GR Sport badging.

The European GR Sport model will receive the traditional Toyota script on its front grille, specifically on the grille’s stylish carbon-fiber-like cross member. This is slightly different from the other variants since the Japanese variant sported the Toyota name above the cross member and not directly on it.

Coming to the interior, the upcoming variant will feature new sports seats for the front row. The seats will be adorned with perforated synthetic suede and black leather, bordered by contrast stitching.

The European variant will also receive a chassis upgrade with new front springs and new monotube dampers. These dampers will provide better heat dissipation, better response, and offer better damping performance. This will also help to maintain the damping oil quality when the vehicle travels through rough terrains.

Next up, the wheels will be a set of two-tone machined finish products with all-terrain tires. This is a slight upgrade from the Japanese and Thai GR’s singular black finish ones.

Coming to the powertrain, the European Hilux GR Sport will be powered by the 2.8L turbo diesel engine that delivers a power output of 2014hp and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. It will also be accompanied by an automatic limited-slip differential and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Lastly, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport will be arriving soon in Europe, latest by the summer of 2022. However, no news of this vehicle being available in Singapore has been announced yet.
