New Ford Mustang GT3 race car coming in 2024
Ford recently announced the launch of its production-based racing car for the IMSA GT3 class. It means we will be getting a full-factory entry in the form of a new Mustang GT3 race car in 2024, starting with the 24 hours of Daytona! The car will now be jointly created by Multimatic Motorsports and Ford, produced as customer racing entries.
For starters, the Mustang GT3 will feature a powerful Coyote 5.0L V8 engine. Ford Performance will be developing the engine while M-Sport, the English motorsport outfit will be responsible for building it. M-Sport recently collaborated with Ford during the FIA World Rally Championship where the new Ford Puma Hybrid Rally 1 came first, third, and fifth.
The GT3 Mustang will also be equipped with a short-long arm front and rear suspension, a GT3 special aerodynamic package, carbon-fiber body panels, and a rear-mounted transaxle gearbox.
Joey Hand, the 2016 Le Mans GTE Pro Class winner will be joining the 2024 Ford Mustang testing program. He will be continuing his role as Ford Performance’s development coach and driver as well.
Mark Rushbrook, Ford Performance Motorsports global director said that Multimatic Motorsports is their perfect partner for the project. They have previously worked on several customer Mustang projects, Bronco customer race programs, and the Ford GT program. Rushbrook further added that thanks to their previous collaborations, they are certain that Motorsports will help them provide championship-level race programs for their customers.
Multimatic and Ford are also working on the upcoming Mustang GT4 customer racing program. This program will launch a new Mustang GT4 sometime in 2023. It means we might get to see the GT4 before we lay eyes on the factory-backed GT3.
Also, Ford Mustang’s next-generation 2022 model will debut at the NASCAR CUP Series on February 6th. Several sources have confirmed that the lifespan of the new vehicle is around eight years. It means the upcoming vehicle might stay in production till 2030.
