Nissan Micra confirmed to be replaced by electric model internationally
Nissan has just confirmed that it would be replacing the Micra hatchback with an all-new electric model across the globe. While the Nissan Micra was discontinued from a couple of Asia countries, including India, a couple of years ago, a substitute was introduced overseas, which will currently see an inheritor in the form of an all-new CMF-BEV platform-based model.
The Micra replacement will be established on a new EV platform in common with the upcoming Renault 5, part of a EUR 23 billion investment in electrification announced by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance over the next five years.
According to the Alliance, the platform will launch in 2024 and is said to house sufficient batteries to deliver around 400 km of range, which will over time be converted as a basis of 2,50,000 vehicles annually by the brands like Nissan, Renault, and Alpine.
The Alliance has likewise confirmed that the new platform is not just housed to furnish speed but also works in favor of the environment. It is stated the CMF-BEV would reduce costs by 33% and power consumption by 10%, compared to the platforms currently in use for the Renault Zoe and the Nissan Leaf.
The CMF-BEV will be one of five electric platforms the Alliance plans to launch, a program kicked off by the CMF-EV platform that justifies the deferred Nissan Ariya SUV and the new Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric for global markets.
The said five platforms include one specific to vans, while the remaining for the budget CMF-AEV platform underpins the Dacia Spring city car, which is similar to the Renault Kwid, available in India and Japanese-style micro Kei cars. According to reports, it is said that the Alliance plans to underpin 35 new cars by 2030 over the five platforms.
Nissan's chief operating officer, Ashwani Gupta, has said: "This all-new model will be designed by Nissan and engineered and manufactured by Renault using our new common platform, maximizing the use of our Alliance assets while maintaining its Nissan-ness."
Although in recent years, the three companies have sometimes struggled to find common ground when trying to align competing demands. It is now clear the electrification goals would unite them and increase common investment.
