Nissan Elgrand

While the exterior design of the Nissan Elgrand speaks a lot of visual drama, the vehicle is more subtly executed on the inside. However, it still matches the extravagant appeal of the overall car, and offers oodles of premium appeal with top quality leather upholstery and fit and finish.

The Nissan Elgrand gets a large four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with a simple but very comprehensive looking instrument console for the driver’s cockpit. The center console has a bulged out theme for its lower part, with the upper one having a rounded upper line with a touchscreen infotainment system stacked in between the two vertically laid AC vents.

The lower part of the center console has a bulged out and tapered design and accommodates squared panels for dual-zone automatic climate control and music system stacked one over the other and the transmission lever to its side. The cabin looks dark with its all-black theme and faux dark wood finish running across the width of the dashboard and door panels.

The cabin is immensely spacious in all the three rows it offers and gets a decently long list of features including twin sunroofs, auto sliding side doors, powered front seats, push-button start with keyless entry and many more.

Being a flagship MPV, the Nissan Elgrand has got the poise and stance of a luxury people mover, and its large dimensions and boxy styling gives it an authoritative road presence even on the standstill. 

The Nissan Elgrand gets a very sophisticated looking front end, which consists of a large trapezoidal chrome grille, having multiple horizontal slats and tapering down design from the middle. The headlamps on the sides are fragmented into two parts, with the upper one getting turn indicators and the lower one having projector bulbs and tilted V-shaped daytime running LEDs besides them. The trapezoidal housing for the fog lamps with chrome bordering adds to the premium appeal of the Elgrand when viewed head-on.

The side profile of the Nissan Elgrand looks stretched, with an extensively long wheelbase and crisp and long window waistline which gets chrome finish. The almost rectangular windows of the Elgrand add to the big size of the vehicle, while the chrome-finished door handles and multi-spoke alloy wheels are elements which enhance its premium appeal even more.

From the back, the Nissan Elgrand looks extremely boxy, but it is nowhere close to looking drab. The MPV gets a split design for the tail lamps, with the upper one being horizontal units blending with the horizontal chrome garnish above the license plate housing, while the lower one being rectangular and vertical units having just turn indicators and reverse lamps.

The Nissan Elgrand offers a very premium and plush experience while on the go, with a comfortable ride quality, thanks to the softly sprung Macpherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear. The seats offer great under-thigh support as well as cushioning too. However, when it comes to experience behind the wheel, it is pretty lucid with the light-weighted steering and body roll not inspiring enough confidence at higher speeds.

The Nissan Elgrand gets its power from a 2.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol motor under its hood, which is being offered with a CVT gearbox as standard. The engine feels decently powerful, with a maximum power output of 170 PS and a maximum torque output of 245 Nm on tap.

The Nissan Elgrand gets only the essentials when it comes to the crucial aspect of safety, with the MPV getting a total of eight airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, reverse parking sensors with camera, vehicle dynamic control. 

With its authoritative road presence due to its extrovert design language and massive dimensions, the Nissan Elgrand has got the much-needed appeal of a premium luxury MPV. However, the interior cabin could have been a game above in terms of features and design. The plush ride comfort, however, makes up for the compromise made in terms of equipment.
