Subaru’s first electric car Solterra revealed in Japan

Ahead of introducing its first electric car Solterra in the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, Subaru revealed the EV in Japan. Made in collaboration with Toyota, the Solterra is equipped with a dedicated EV architecture, dubbed as the e-Subaru Global Platform! So let’s take a look at everything it has to offer.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the range of the Subaru Solterra?

The Solterra EV is available in two powertrain options - FWD and AWD. Both pack a 71.4 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 530 km and 460 km, respectively.
  • When will the Subaru Solterra launch in Singapore?

No announcement of the Subaru Solterra making it to Singapore has been made yet.
  • The Solterra looks somewhat similar to the Toyota bZ4X but has some notable design changes which set it apart from the rest. First of all, it is larger than the Forester, being 4,690 mm long and with a 2,850 mm wheelbase. Also, the Solterra comes with a hexagonal enclosed grille complete with the Pleiades star cluster badge and C-shaped daytime headlamps. The rear end sports classy C-shaped tail lamps with black body wheel arches adding to its slightly aggressive look.

The Solterra’s interior is also somewhat similar to the bZ4X with the same widescreen low-mounted infotainment system, top-mounted digital instrument cluster, and a raised centre console with drive-mode functions like an electronic parking brake and X-mode.

For the powertrain, the Solterra packs a lithium-ion 355-volt battery with 71.4 kWh battery capacity. However, its charging time is yet to be revealed. In the case of the FWD powertrain, the Solterra promises an impressive 530 km range and a single electric motor at 201 hp. There will be two electric motors for the AWD model, both with 107 hp power each, and will come with a slightly reduced range of 460 km.

The sale announcement of the Subaru Solterra is yet to be made, but if rumours are to be believed, the EV will hit the markets in China, Europe, Canada, the USA, and Japan by the middle of next year. No announcement of the Solterra making it to Singapore has been made yet, but we hope to see this futuristic EV in our market soon!
