Toyota GR GT3 concept car and GR Yaris tuned version coming to Tokyo Auto Salon 2022

The GT series by Toyota is an offering that needs no introduction for automotive enthusiasts! And similarly, the automaker has also left no stone unturned to surprise its fans at this year’s Tokyo’s Auto Salon. 

As per the latest news, Toyota will be pulling out its big guns with some of the best concepts and models we have ever seen. The hype around the salon suggests that we might see a GR GT3 concept, alongside the GR Yaris tuned version. 

As the name suggests, this vehicle will be made according to the GT3 regulations and will be a race-ready vehicle. And as WEC or World Endurance Championship upgrades into purpose-built GTE regs, Toyota might just elevate their new race cars too to meet the new criteria. 

The tuned version of the GR Yaris might be the final product of the prototype that we spotted in October 2020 during its Nurburgring testing. This variant will surely bring new features and specifications, elevating the present model by several notches. 

While Toyota has been hiding the exact details of the upcoming version, we have already spotted some interesting hardware on the model. The teaser revealed a huge swan-like rear spoiler, a longer front splitter, and a vented carbon fiber bonnet. We hope the new GR Yaris will be packing a more intense powertrain. We might also get to see a three-cylinder, turbocharged 1.6L engine with a 261 PS power output. 

Apart from the above two vehicles, Toyota will be displaying a GR010 Hybrid (the famed Le Mans and WEC winner). Several GR Heritage Parts from Toyota’s famed sports car catalog will also be displayed.
