Volkswagen ID.6 electric SUV images leaked
Volkswagen’s upcoming EV, the ID.6 has been revealed in documents filed for a patent in China. One of the largest additions to the automaker’s EV wing, the ID.6 sits over Volkswagen Group's MEB EV platform and will continue to be the largest production EV model until the ID Buzz van will arrive, later in 2022.
Based on the ID.Roomzz concept showcased at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2019, the ID.6 will be a direct competitor to the Mercedes EQV and the Tesla Model X. The car will continue to thrive as a reliable, pure-electric Seven-Seater vehicle in its segment.
Set to launch in China later this year, the car is said to remain exclusive to the country, for now, and expected to be followed by sales to other countries in the coming years. However, the automaker has not confirmed its introduction in other global markets. Further, VW’s Board Member Jürgen Stackmann said that introducing the production model to Europe “is not an immediate priority”, hinting towards the car’s possible sale in other countries as well.
Talking of the design feature of the car, the published images highlight a design that is inspired by the ID.4. The car carries a more streamlined approach in terms of its design, paired with the presence of larger headlights and more angular bodywork.
While the production model might pick up most of its styling & detail from the ID.Roomzz, some of the design aspects have not really made it to production. Talking of which, the sliding doors and wing mirrors have been omitted for standard doors and cameras for the rear.
Lastly, the car is said to be powered by a battery pack, generating 306 hp of power and 449 Nm of peak torque. The car might be offering a range of 450 km, similar to the claimed range of the ID.Roomzz, and is expected to be charged to 80 percent in around half an hour from a 150-kW rapid charger.
