Volkswagen teases its ID.6 EV SUV ahead of Shanghai debut
Volkswagen has teased its upcoming ID.6 ahead of its debut later this month at the Shanghai Auto Show. While we’ve already had a look at the ID.3 hatchback and ID.4 SUV by the German auto giant, we were supposed to be introduced to more offerings under the ID badge. One of the upcoming offerings by the brand is its ID.6 three-row electric SUV.
The teaser is a blacked-out image of the upcoming SUV, keeping up with the design elements of the car. However, thanks to the revealing images (pictured below) that were published earlier this year by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the ID.6 is not that much of a mystery.
In the previously surfaced images, the ID.6 went through the mandatory homologation process. However, we expect the production version to have a more simplified, minimalistic design feature than the Roomzz concept introduced two years ago in Auto Show, Shanghai.
Based on the spec-sheet by MIIT, the upcoming VW ID.6 is powered by a single electric motor that churns out a 201 hp of power. Thanks to the third row, the SUV will be standing at 192 inches, with a wheelbase at 116.7 inches. The MIIT documents also revealed the car to carry a lithium-ion battery pack with 82-kWh capacity.
The ID.3 hatchback and ID.4 SUV are just the beginning when it comes to EV offerings by Volkswagen. While the automaker has already announced its electrical revolution in the last decade, it has promised to introduce around 25 EVs under the different umbrella brands of the Volkswagen AG.
Lastly, In the near future, we might come across a number of EVs that will be running on the MEB platform, supporting the vision of VW’s additional zero-emissions models that are planned for SEAT, Audi, and Skoda.
