Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet

The overall interior cabin of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet is a direct lift-off from the C-Class sedan, which in itself is a luxurious place to be in. While it lacks the latest of the design trends of Mercedes-Benz, it still feels one or two notches above than the cabins of the conventional premium sedans priced below it.

The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with its silver inserts looks very nice to hold and feel, and while the pod-like theme for the instrument console is quite informative and big on vision, it feels a bit dated by now Mercedes Benz standards. The cabin of the this latest iteration misses out on the wide landscape styled MBUX display unit and instead gets a slightly smaller rectangular infotainment system in the middle.

The cascading and wide theme for the center console of the dashboard here houses three-round AC vents at the top, sleek buttons for the infotainment system below them, climate control switches below it and then the transmission lever at the bottom. One can have the entire interior cabin wrapped in a host of choices of trim levels and upholstery color options.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet is based on its sedan counterpart, the C-Class, which despite belonging to the lower spectrum of the lineup of Mercedes-Benz, has always been praised for its smooth lines and proportionate design. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet follows the same lineage, with the traditional design cues of a cabriolet.

At the front, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet completely resembles the front fascia of the C-Class sedan, with the front look housing the wide front star-studded grille with a horizontal chrome garnish in the middle. The curvaceous headlamp, with full LED lighting arrangement, has been retained from the C-Class sedan too, and so does the front bumper with sporty-looking inserts.

The side profile of the Mercedes Benz C-Class Cabriolet gets the traditional two-door look, with a smooth character line which flows throughout the middle of the side profile, right from the front fender to the rear one. The alloy wheels, however, look a bit simple for its suave design.

At the rear, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet looks completely different from its sedan counterpart, with the boot lid having a rather clean design with horizontally laid tail lamps with LED inserts and rounded edges. At the bottom of the rear bumper, the Mercedes Benz C-Class Cabriolet gets twin exhaust design with a sleek chrome garnishing line adjoining both of them on either sides.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet might lack the outright sportiness of a sports coupe, but it still feels calm and composed to drive, with plush ride quality on offer, courtesy the softly tuned suspension assisted by air body control technology. The low slung stance and aerodynamic design of the Mercedes Benz C-Class Cabriolet helps further in its driving dynamics even more.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet is powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which is housed under the hood of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan. Here too, the engine is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission, which transfers the power to the rear wheels and produces 257 PS of maximum power and 370 Nm of peak torque.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet is equipped with a range of safety features, including the likes of the front, side, curtain and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, rollover stability control, emergency brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control, hill start assist, lane keep assist, hill descent control, pedestrian detection system, electric parking brake and auto park brake hold.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet might not have the practicality and versatility of the rear bench of the C-Class sedan, with limited space on offer there. However, the open-top motoring experience it offers, with a number of positive attributes of the C-Class sedan, makes it a great package of its own.
