Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake

The new second-gen CLA has grown prettier and provides an upmarket feel. Mercedes has invested a lot into the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) and has made it the centre point of the entire interior. The two 10.25 inches displays look more like two iPads placed next to each other and act as the control centre of the car. The right screen, with the instrument dials, is controlled, by a touch-sensitive pad on the right of the steering wheel, while the left screen can be accessed either by the same pad on the left of the steering wheel or a touch pad placed in between the front seats. The Ambient lighting lets you select from 64 colour options and creates fascinating colour effects, like the illuminated vents, doors and the dashboard. There's a special compartment in the centre console to place your smartphone and charge it wirelessly. You can connect your iPhone or Android phone to the media system using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, through the Smartphone Integration Package. The optional head-up display allows the driver to concentrate on the road and is less tiring on the eyes.

Based on the new, more flexible MFA2 platform, the second-generation CLA is far more worked out. Like the Coupe, the Shooting Brake has a long bonnet, and its shark-nose design makes it stand out in the crowd. The AMG Line model has an AMG body kit with chrome front splitter and the 'diamond pin' grille and 18-inch wheels with AMG design. The Shooting Brake offers smooth handling and an impressive ride quality owing to its sorted suspension setup and comfort biased tyres. The MacPherson Strut at the front and a Multi-Link at the rear performs the suspension duties. The suspension setup comes with adjustable damping to provide a comfortable ride, especially during long journeys. Moreover, The Dynamic Select option offers different drive programs with setting options for the engine, transmission, chassis and steering. There are three modes to select from - the basic "Comfort" mode is exceptionally balanced, while in "Sport" mode, the vehicle is more dynamic; the 'Eco" mode emphasises on maximum efficiency and saves fuel and money.

Both the Shooting Brake variants are powered by a 1332cc, 16-valves, inline-4, turbocharged engine that shoots up max power of 163hp at 5000-6000rpm and peak torque of 250Nm at 1620-4000rpm. The power is transmitted to the wheels using a 7-speed dual-clutch with manual select. Mercedes claims that the CLA Shootin Brake can clock 0-100kmph in 8.4 seconds and can reach up to a speed of 226 kmph. The company claimed average fuel consumption is 17.7 kmpl.

Mercedes has invested a lot in improving the safety component of the CLA Shooting Brake. Braking is performed by ventilated discs at the front and regular discs at the rear. The braking setup is enhanced by the Active Brake Assist that can help prevent serious accidents due to insufficient distance or inattentiveness. It issues a visual and acoustic warning about an impending collision. Other safety features include Adaptive Brake Control System, Mercedes Benz Intelligent Drive, Attention Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and optional safety packages like Parking Package with 360-degree camera, Parking Package with reversing camera and Mirror package.

If we talk about all the front wheel drives from Mercedes, the CLA Shooting Brake is arguably the best and the most resolved cars.
