Volkswagen Beetle Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
Regarded as one of the most iconic and recognizable cars in the entire world, the Volkswagen Beetle has been the face of the German carmaker in all these years. The highest selling car at one point of time, the Volkswagen Beetle is already on the verge of the end of its life cycle and has been discontinued in many parts of the world. The Singapore car market, however, continues to get the Volkswagen Beetle in one standard 1.2 TSI variant, which is available in three different color options of Blue Silk, Deep Black Pearl, and Platinum Grey.
Volkswagen Beetle Interior & Features
The cabin of the Volkswagen Beetle might not have the novelty or futuristic appeal of the modern-day hatchbacks, but it still manages to make you go gaga over it with its tasteful execution of colour coded panels and unique styling bits. The entire cabin of the Volkswagen Beetle is given an all-black theme, but the steering wheel, door pads and middle layer of the dashboard get exterior colour-coded finish, making the cabin look sporty and youthful.
The flat bottom rounded-theme multi-functional steering wheel, as well as three-pod rounded instrument console, look very dated in today’s day and age. However, Volkswagen has tried to liven up the things a bit by making the center console look up to date, with the incorporation of a large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with vertically laid AC vents on either side. The lower panel of the center console has a rectangular console for the climate control buttons.
The cabin of the Volkswagen Beetle is designed to accommodate four people, but the space at the rear is compromised with limited legroom and knee room. Also, the interior is not too well equipped as per today’s times, and the Beetle only gets a few creature comforts in the form of a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control and height-adjustable front seats.
Beetle Exterior
The Volkswagen Beetle has got an unmistakable design which has made it an icon what it is today. The quickly recognizable silhouette of the Volkswagen Beetle, with the rounded profile and cutesy looks, has made the Beetle one of the most loved cars in all these years.
The Volkswagen Beetle has evolved a lot in all these years, and has managed to retain the retro appeal of the first ever car, with its rounded bonnet line and front fascia, with the round headlamps now incorporating bi-xenon headlamps with daytime running LEDs. The clean look of the front profile looks busier when moved downwards towards the front bumper, with broad trapezoidal housings for the fog lamps and turn indicators and sleek trapezoidal grille on the bumper.
The side profile of the Volkswagen Beetle looks excellent with its coupe-like rounded roofline, which ends all the way towards the boot lid. Adding to it, the two-door profile of the car, along with door-mounted rearview mirrors as well as flared and rounded wheel arches above the large machined alloy wheels gives the Volkswagen Beetle a sporty stance.
At the back, the Volkswagen Beetle has got a pair of rounded C-shaped tail lamps which are mounted on the extended portion of the rear wheel arches towards the back. The curved rear windscreen merges with the boot lid in a sharply curved manner, with the lower edge of the windscreen getting a sporty rear spoiler.
Volkswagen Beetle Ride & Handling
The Volkswagen Beetle has always been known for its friendly driving dynamics, which do come with an added pinch of sportiness. Riding on 17-inch wheels, the car is fitted with Macpherson struts at the front and multi-link setup at the rear, both of which have been tuned stiffly for giving a sporty experience behind the wheel.
Beetle Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Volkswagen Beetle, for the Singapore car market, gets a 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine to power its wheels. Coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which is the only transmission option available for it, the engine makes 105 PS of maximum power and 175 Nm of maximum torque output.
Volkswagen Beetle Braking & Safety
The Volkswagen Beetle gets a slew of modern-day safety features onboard, including front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stabilization programme with an anti-slip regulator, driver steering recommendation, electronic differential lock, engine drag control, reverse parking sensors and reverse camera.
Beetle Verdict
The Volkswagen Beetle might not be a hugely practical car for the limited space, features and stiff ride quality it offers on broken and uneven roads. However, for the style statement it possesses, owing to its iconic design, the Volkswagen Beetle is one car which surely manages to steal your heart just by the way it looks on the outside and feels on the inside.
