Volvo XC60

The Volvo XC60 gets two types of interior cabin layout – combination of the black and white theme in the Momentum trim and all-black theme in the R-Design, with the latter getting more premium Nappa leather upholstery, in comparison to standard leather in the Momentum. 

The Volvo XC60 shares its overall interior layout theme with the rest of the lower-spec Volvos like the XC40 SUV and S60 sedan. The driver’s cockpit looks elegant with the multi-functional steering wheel with the rounded squared center boss and a simple yet flair-filled full TFT instrument console.

The most interesting highlight of the cabin has to be the portrait styled rectangular touchscreen infotainment system in the middle, which are surrounded by the piano black finish and vertical AC vents on its either sides. The layered theme for the dashboard makes it look sleek, and a small analog clock sitting at the top of the dashboard in a tucked in manner is one nice touch here.

Compared to the previously available model, the Volvo XC60 has turned out to be quite a looker, and this new current iteration of the SUV is surely the sleekest and most eye-catching XC60 till date. The Volvo XC60 has a traditional SUV stance, but the design, with its aerodynamic appeal and a streamlined profile, has a flavor of athleticism. 

At the front, the Volvo XC60 looks much cleaner and sleek than ever before, with the large and wide grille at the center, which gets tapered edges on its lower sides. The T-shaped all-LED headlamps are stretched horizontally, with the middle of the headlamps getting slim Thor hammer-like daytime running LEDs.

The side profile of the Volvo XC60 gets a haunch-up stance while moving towards rear, with the SUV getting door-mounted rearview mirrors, which are body-coloured on Momentum and glossy black on R-Design. The very slim roof rails and absence of any kind of body molding on sides make it look more urban-oriented, something which is accentuated even more by the large 19-inch machined alloy wheels on the R-Design trim (Momentum gets 18-inch grey alloys).

The rear profile of the Volvo XC60 is the most striking angle to look at the SUV, with the Christmas-tree like LED tail lamps having additional horizontal stretch at their bottom which move towards the license plate housing in the middle. The rear windscreen tapers down at a steep angle, with the roof-mounted spoiler adding to the sporty essence created by the former and layout of the tail lamps.

Thanks to its streamlined design and air controlled suspension setup, with the front getting Macpherson struts and the rear having multi-link, the Volvo XC60 feels sure-footed on stretches and while cornering as well, with a negligible amount of body roll on the move. The soft setup of steering somewhat robs off one level of excitement when the SUV is pushed hard but is praiseworthy in an urban driving setup. The Volvo XC60 comes with an all-wheel-drive setup as standard.

The Volvo XC60 gets a single 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, however, it has been tuned differently in both the variants. In the Momentum trim, this engine puts up 252 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. In the R-Design trim, however, the engine is supercharged and produces 319 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque.

Being a Volvo, the XC60 offers a no-compromise solution in terms of safety features, with the midsize SUV having a long list of safety features, such as front, side, curtain and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, traction control, electronic stability control, hill start assist, hill descent control, a semi-autonomous drive system including run-off-road mitigation, autonomous braking and pilot assist, oncoming lane mitigation, blind-spot monitoring system, lane keep assist and many more.

The Volvo XC60 feels like a complete SUV in all sorts. The SUV looks and feels balanced in terms of the way it looks on the outside, it makes you feel on the inside and how easy and composed it is to drive behind the steering wheel.
