All-new Volkswagen Virtus global debut set for March 8
India will receive a new global sedan from Volkswagen on March 8, 2022. With special uplifts, powerful engines, and a ton of features, the new vehicle will likely compete with other luxurious models in the segment, including Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia, and Honda City. And from what we hear, this vehicle might replace the good old Volkswagen Vento. So let’s check out what the upcoming vehicle has to offer.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Which engines will be on offer with the new Volkswagen sedan?
Volkswagen's upcoming sedan is likely to get a turbocharged, 1.0L, 3-cylinder engine or a turbo TSI 1.5L unit.Volkswagen is yet to reveal the name of the upcoming vehicle. However, there are rumors that this new global sedan is an updated version of the much-loved 2017 Virtus. The German automaker has released some teaser images, in which the sedan looks fantastic! It sports stylish projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and twin pods. The headlamps accommodate the two-slat front grille between them. In addition, the more comprehensive front bumper looks very sleek, with a pair of fog lamps on both sides.
Now coming to the interior, the Virtus will look similar to Skoda Slavia, its Czech sibling. While details are being kept under wraps, we can assume that there will be various new features like leatherette upholstery, a digital instrument cluster, and even a 10-inch infotainment touch screen. That sounds like a lot of updates from the previous Vento.
The upcoming Virtus might also share a similar architecture with the Slavia. So, we can assume that the Virtus too will feature a turbocharged, 1.0L, 3-cylinder engine with a power output of 114 hp and 175 Nm of torque. Moreover, it will also be accompanied by a turbo TSI 1.5L engine with 148 hp of power output and 250 Nm of torque.
While we are still unsure about the transmission on both engines, we can assume that the 1.5L will come with a seven-speed dual-clutch unit. On the other hand, the 1.0L engine may receive the standard six-speed automatic transmission.
Volkswagen is yet to reveal the price details of the upcoming Virtus and whether the vehicle will be launched in the global market. Till then, stay tuned!
