Leaks reveal BMW 3 Series facelift ahead of global debut

In advance of the global debut of the BMW 3 Series facelift, images of the forthcoming compact premium sedan have been leaked online. The current-generation 3 Series sedan, which debuted overseas in 2018, will undergo a mid-cycle facelift later this year. The upcoming luxury sedan has been revealed in images leaked on the web ahead of its global debut. Leaked images indicate that the 3 Series has received some design updates.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What cars will the upcoming BMW 3 Series rival?

The new BMW 3-Series will continue to compete against models such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Volvo S60, and Jaguar XE.
  • Which engine will power the facelifted 3 Series?

BMW will likely keep the new 3 Series mechanically the same. Consequently, both the BMW 3 Series and 3 Series GL will come with 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines.
  • This is the 'long-wheelbase' version of the BMW 3 Series, also known as the Gran Limousine. The facelifted 3 Series will likely provide subtle changes in styling, and we're glad that BMW didn't decide to opt for the obnoxious bulbous grille we've seen on other models recently.

New headlamps, a grille with chrome inserts, reworked bumpers, and bigger air curtains make up the front end of the new 3 Series. Despite the similar appearance of the sedan, the new model is expected to come with new alloy wheels. In addition to an updated bumper at the rear, the new 3 Series is expected to get visible exhaust pipes in the M Sport trim. Although we don't have any images of the cabin, no significant changes are likely to occur. There will be a new digital instrument cluster and a larger and more hi-tech infotainment system.

BMW will likely keep the new 3 Series mechanically the same. Consequently, both the BMW 3 Series and 3 Series GL will come with 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. However, the performance-oriented BMW M340i will have the same 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, twin-turbo engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This new BMW 3-Series will continue to compete against models such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Volvo S60, and Jaguar XE.
