BMW 3 Series

BMW has made the interior cabin of the new 3-Series look less cluttered and more minimalist, and in the process, the cabin now looks much classier and future-ready at the same time. One can have the cabin of the BMW 3-Series in one of the seven different upholstery and six different trim options to choose from.

The three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel is something which we have already seen in a number of BMW cars in the past, however, what is a new addition here is a full TFT instrument console behind the steering wheel. The wide trapezoidal touchscreen infotainment system gets piano black surrounds and packs in all the modern amenities but misses out on one crucial addition of Android Auto.

The hexagonal housing just below the infotainment system packs in pentagonal AC vents with silver surrounds and a small digital display stacked in between them displaying the data of dual-zone climate control. There is a sleek array of buttons below this housing which acts as a control panel for the infotainment system. The transmission lever panel looks classier with its flat design and a hidden storage compartment ahead of it.

This new seventh-generation version of the BMW 3-Series sedan is one of the most proportionate looking and universally praised designs to have ever rolled out from BMW’s design house. There are a lot of design cues that do make the 3-Series look much newer than ever before, without tampering much with the original silhouette of the sedan.

The front profile of the BMW 3-Series manages to catch one’s glimpse with two of the major design highlights. First is the double kidney grille, which is surrounded by chrome garnish and gets vertical black slats like before, but now are much wider. And secondly are the sharp-looking all-LED headlamps, which are wide and get a kink in the middle acting as a separator of the dual bulbs of the headlamps. The front bumper, with its sporty looking air dams and LED fog lamps, add some sportiness to the front look of the car.

The side profile of the BMW 3-Series looks slightly sleeker than the previous generation 3-Series, and that is due to the dual smooth character lines flowing sideways. The wide rearview mirrors, large door panels, and big windows make the 3-Series look much longer than what it is, therefore giving it a much needed big car appeal.

The rear profile of the new BMW 3-Series witnesses a big change in the form of all-new LED tail lamps, with the L-shaped units getting sleeker-looking LED inserts, thus giving the rear look of the car a futuristic appeal.

The M-Sport suspension of the BMW 3-Series, comprising of double-joint spring strut axle at the front and five-link axle at the rear, makes the rear wheel driven 3-Series a joy to drive with its slightly stiffer setup. The M-Sport differential, M-Sport brake, and variable sport steering work together to make the 3-Series sedan one of the finest sedans to drive in the market right now.

The BMW 3-Series, in Singapore, is available with one 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine in two states of tune. This engine produces 155 PS of power and 250 Nm of power in the 318i variant and 183 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque in the 320i variants. In all the variants, an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission is offered as standard.

The BMW 3-Series sedan is laden generously with good safety features, comprising of the front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera, and hill start assist.

With a classier looking cabin and a very contemporary design on the outside, the new BMW 3-Series now remains not only a great car for those who love driving, but also those, who have a keen eye for attention to detail and a knack for modern features in and out.
