Next-gen Mini Convertible confirmed for 2025

With a set pathway to adapt to electrification by 2030, Mini is expected to face a series of changes in its portfolio. While some of the most assured offerings will be new cars by the automaker, we are expecting a new convertible hitting the markets with a combustion engine in 2025. 

Further, it has also been confirmed that the automaker will be unveiling a new convertible model. Contrary to previous reports, it is now official that the Mini Convertible is going to book a slot in the segment, at least until the end of the decade.

Talking about their upcoming offering, Bernd Körber, head of the Mini brand, commented. "The Mini Convertible has a large and particularly loyal fan base. This is also shown by the great demand for the latest, freshly updated model. We are therefore firmly convinced of the success of this vehicle concept for the future."

While there are no specific details on the upcoming car, we are not very assured of the design language the car will be adopting. Looking at the history of production, Convertible’s by MINI has always been a hatchback and has been greatly split into two different models. 

Besides the upcoming convertible, the automaker is also expected to release a scaled-down and electric-powered car by 2023. 

As per the latest comments from the British manufacturer, they affirm that the Convertible is especially popular in Germany, followed by a similar demand in the US market and Great Britain. The brand’s announcement about replacing  the current model will "cause a sensation." 

"Last year, almost one in five Mini customers in Germany opted for open-top driving fun," Körber added. "This demonstrates the great enthusiasm of the Mini community for a vehicle concept like this in the future."

Lastly, the company has made no such indication on which specific car will be getting the next Convertible treatment. However, the suggested release dates and the most recent replacement of the outgoing F56 that now has an F57 soft-top version, make us believe that the upcoming MINI will be powered by an internal combustion engine.
