Volkswagen shows off its unique exterior style approach with ID.4 SUV

Volkswagen is all set to steer the automobile industry by storm while gearing up for the launch of its new ID 4 electric crossover. Set to release next month, the ID 4 was first seen as the ID Crozz concept. Recently, the brand unveiled the new official sketches to give us an idea of the exterior design of its upcoming offering.

A glance at the sketch and enthusiasts can vouch that the German automaker is developing the ID.4 with a focus on aerodynamic efficiency. With what is described as "a matter of weeks", VW seems to have adapted the styling features of its upcoming with that of the curvy ID.3. However, the ID.4 gets a stretched and broad face appeal.

Talking about the design approach of the vehicle, Volkswagen Group design chief Klaus Zyciora described the ID.4 as "clean, flowing and powerful". He further added that "It appears strong and self-confident in a new way. This is mainly due to the seamless, aerodynamic style of our ID. family, which we have transferred to the SUV segment for the first time with the ID.4."

Termed as "shaped by the wind itself", the crossover also picks up a raked windshield and super-short overhangs. Interestingly, the design of the vehicle is not limited to aerodynamics but also serves a purpose in the overall performance of the car.

As a part of their designing strategy, VW was able to achieve a drag coefficient of 0.28 with ID.4. The overall shape of the crossover's body and passenger compartment played a major role in achieving the feat. The rear end of the car also plays a major role in the drag coefficient, its taillight clusters and large roof spoilers work in a combination to ensure clean airflow separation.

The vehicle will be riding over VW Group's MEB architecture. Powering the ID.4 would be two electric motors, giving out a combined output of 302 hp (222 kilowatts). The car is also expected to give out an electrical range of 310 miles (500 kilometres).

Lastly, the ID 4 will be produced at factories in Germany, the US, and China. However, there are no words on the arrival of the car and its price tag.
