BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition

On the inside, just like in any other M-badged car, the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition shares its entire cabin with its regular counterpart, the 8-Series Gran Coupe, albeit with additional M-Sport specific bits like steering wheel, sport seats, center console finish, and additional features.

The sporty three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel is not a flat bottom unit but looks cool with the full TFT BMW’s virtual cockpit design. The center console here is a trapezoidal touchscreen infotainment system, which makes way for tapering down center console, which accommodates controls for automatic climate control as well as audio system and transmission lever, complete with piano black and carbon fiber highlights.

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition gets all the prominent luxury features one can expect from a niche flagship coupe. However, the sloping roofline and high running transmission tunnel do limit the space at the rear a bit. 

The 8-Series Gran Coupe already ranks as the most beautiful looking car from BMW, and the M8 Gran Coupe Competition takes that bar one notch higher with its additional sporty design elements and add-ons. 

At the front, the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition shares its traditional double kidney grille, with tapered lower boundaries on its outer edges and an adjoined portion in the middle, with the regular 8 Series Gran Coupe. However, unlike in the regular 8 Series Gran Coupe, the horizontal slats within them as well as its surroundings are finished in gloss black and not chrome.

The all-laser LED headlamps with daytime running LEDs have been lifted off from the regular 8 Series Gran Coupe, however, the front bumper here is all-new with bigger and sharper looking air inlets and corner inserts. 

From the side, the only prominent change in the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition over the regular 8-Series is the choice of sportier-looking alloy wheels and even lower profile sport-oriented tires. Rest assured, it retains the gorgeous elongated stance and rounded roofline of the 8-Series Gran Coupe, with gloss black finish replacing the chrome finish for the entire window frame. 

At the rear, the stretched LED tail lamps, as well as hunk-up stance for the boot lid with integrated spoiler, is the same as that in the regular 8-Series Gran Coupe, save for the additional sleek black spoiler mounted on the top of the boot lid. The rear bumper too is all new here, and houses quad exhaust pipes, compared to dual in the regular 8-Series Gran Coupe.  

Apart from the low slung stance and aerodynamic profile, the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition shares its entire mechanical package with the regular BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe, which includes adaptive suspension setup, integral active steering driving experience control with adaptive mode, and M-Sport differential. However, with additional sport ride modes, stiffer suspension setup, and multiple configurations make the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition an even more involving car to have your hands on.

Powering the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition is a 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 petrol engine, which currently ranks as the most powerful engine from BMW. The engine, which is offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission as well as all-wheel-drive configuration as standard, pumps out 625 PS of maximum power and 750 Nm of torque.

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition is bestowed with an elongated list of safety features, including front, side, curtain and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, traction control, electronic stability control, hill start assist, hill descent control, front and rear parking sensors,  360-degree parking camera, steering, and Lane Control Assistant, Lane-Keeping Assistant with Active Side Collision Protection, Emergency Stop Assistant, Automatic Speed Limit Assist and Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go Function.

With the additional sporty looking highlights, bigger and more powerful engine, and more engaging driving dynamics package, the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition is definitely a significant upgrade over the regular 8-Series Gran Coupe and a worthy contender for BMW’s flagship vehicle.
