BYD E6 Electric

The sense of simplicity and understated appeal of the exterior design of the BYD E6 Electric has been retained on the inside of the BYD E6 Electric as well. The cabin looks quite simple, but is far from basic, thanks to the presence of a large 10.1-inch rectangular touchscreen infotainment system in the middle.

The three-spoke steering wheel as well as the instrument console behind it look very basic for an electric car meant for the future. However, the glossy grey finish across the dashboard and sleek AC vents in the lower part of the center console do uplift the ambience of the car.

Thanks to its MPV-ish proportions and long wheelbase, the BYD E6 Electric gets plenty of space in the cabin. This makes it one of the most spacious cars in this class.

The BYD E6 Electric previews a window to how the MPVs from the future will look like. It is not too radically different from the current IC engine MPVs, however, there are some subtle design bits that add a futuristic touch to the overall design of this compact MPV.

The front profile of the BYD E6 Electric looks super sleek with a slim chrome garnish in the middle, with its side extensions flowing above the wing-shaped sweptback headlamps. The headlamps here do come with projector units, with curved daytime running LEDs on their outer corners. The talking point about the front look of the BYD E6 Electric has to be the perforated theme for the central air dam in the middle of the front bumper. The corners of the front bumper are occupied by the triangular air inserts.

From the side, the BYD E6 Electric looks very aerodynamic for an MPV, with a nice curvy roofline and smooth bonnet. There is a sleek crease flowing from the edge of the headlamp to that of the tail lamp, giving the MPV a sense of continuity in its design. While the chrome garnish for the window panels and door-mounted rearview mirrors make it look premium, the multi-spoke alloy wheels here look pretty basic.

At the back, the BYD E6 Electric’s main highlight has to be the curved chrome garnish flowing across the width of the boot lid. This chrome garnish extends over the eye-shaped LED tail lamps, which further make the rear look even wider. The roof-mounted black coloured spoiler looks nice with blacked-out pillars and roof.

The BYD E6 Electric gets a basic suspension combination of Macpherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear. Given its MPV-ish characteristics, the overall ride quality feels smooth and comfortable, thanks to a softer suspension setup.

The BYD E6 Electric is powered by a 70 kW AC permanent magnet synchronous motor, the torque output of which is rated at 180 Nm. The motor is mounted on the front axle of the car, giving it a front-wheel-drive configuration. The top speed of the car is rated at 130 kmph.

The 71.7 kWh FLP battery of the BYD E6 Electric is capable of returning 520 km of range in city conditions and 426 km of range in combined city-highway conditions. The battery takes 1.5 hours to get fully charged in the GL variant and up to 2 hours in the GLX variant. 

The BYD E6 Electric is packed with a number of safety features, the list of which includes electronic parking brake, vehicle dynamic control, brake override control, traction control, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, brake assist, front and side airbags, reverse parking sensors, rear camera and tire pressure monitoring system.

The BYD E6 Electric appears like a decent looking and equipped five-seater MPV, which manages to create a strong impression of a practical car with its excellent space levels and comfortable ride quality.
