Hyundai i30 Wagon Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
The Hyundai i30 Wagon is the only station wagon available from the global stable of Hyundai in the Singapore market. Based on the i30 hatchback, the Hyundai i30 Wagon has a stretched body profile which accommodates the additional practicality it offers in terms of space and comfort. For the Singapore market, the Hyundai i30 Wagon is available in a single fully loads variant.
Hyundai i30 Wagon Interior & Features
The cabin of the Hyundai i30 Wagon has been finished in an all-black theme, which adds a sporty touch to the otherwise practical and spacious cabin. Compared to the extrovert-looking exterior design, the cabin of the i30 Wagon shows a hint of subtlety.
The three-spoke steering wheel and a full TFT 7-inch instrument console make up the driver’s cockpit look very cool. The center console of the car looks uncluttered and simple, with a large 8-inch touchscreen unit for the infotainment system and sleek AC vents below it, which are accompanied by a wide-looking hexagonal panel for automatic climate control.
The cabin of the Hyundai i30 Wagon feels very spacious for five adults, with enough headroom, legroom, shoulder room, and boot space at the back. In terms of features, the Hyundai i30 Wagon is loaded with features like dual-zone automatic climate control, powered front seats, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a wireless smartphone charger.
i30 Wagon Exterior
Hyundai has given its best shot to make the i30 Wagon the most stylish station wagon in the Singapore market. The i30 Wagon does look sharp for a station wagon, and due to its design language, it manages to command a solid road presence. However, the exaggerated sharpness in its overall design might not suit everyone’s taste buds.
At the front, the Hyundai i30 Wagon has a striking-looking face comprising of a wide grille, which has a waterfall-like theme comprising of both vertical and horizontal slats. The grille is tapered while moving downwards and has a glossy finish to it. The sweptback headlamps look very sleek and have a full LED lighting arrangement for them, assisted by sleek V-shaped daytime running LEDs. The wide triangular fog lamp housings have L-shaped chrome garnishes with round fog lamps placed below them.
The Hyundai i30 Wagon has a very nice-looking profile when viewed from the side, with the crease flowing through the upper edge of the headlamps towards the rear, thus accentuating its length. The large alloy wheels do give the i30 Wagon a planted and sporty stance, while the large side windows make it look like a larger vehicle.
The Hyundai i30 Wagon looks completely different from its hatchback sibling when viewed from the rear. The boot lid design has been completely redesigned here, with the reprofiled position for the license plate housing, that has moved up on the lower part of the boot lid. However, the large and wide tail lamps with V-shaped LED inserts have been lifted off from the hatchback. The rear bumper gets sleek-looking chrome accents across its width while engulfing the exhaust pots on both corners of the bumper.
Hyundai i30 Wagon Ride & Handling
Station wagons are meant to be family-oriented cars with comfortable ride quality on offer for long drives. The Hyundai i30 Wagon suits the station wagon tag perfectly, as the softer setup for the suspension allows for a very comfortable and plush ride. The feel from the light-weighted steering, however, feels artificial at times.
i30 Wagon Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Hyundai i30 Wagon gets the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which powers other global offerings from Hyundai, like the i20, i30 hatch, and Venue. The engine is available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard and makes maximum power and torque outputs of 120 bhp and 200 Nm respectively.
Hyundai i30 Wagon Braking & Safety
The modern-looking Hyundai i30 Wagon gets an equally modern set of safety features, comprising of the front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, rear camera, forward collision assist, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, high beam assist, and adaptive cruise control.
i30 Wagon Verdict
The Hyundai i30 Wagon looks very stylish and contemporary for a station wagon, and while the excessive sharpness in its design might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it makes it look noticeable on the road. Another aspect of the Hyundai i30 Wagon which is appreciable is its supple ride quality and quality fit and finish levels.
