Audi e-tron S and e-tron S Sportback unveiled

Audi e-tron S and e-tron S Sportback unveiled

Audi has recently introduced the S variant to its e-tron lineup. The new variant is meant to enhance the performance of the electric models and give a direct competition to the Tesla Model X.

A major USP of the S variant introduced across the e-tron and e-tron Sportback is its three motors setup that helps the car with better propulsion. These motors not only lay an impact on the straight-line acceleration but, also give way to increased torque.

The new variant is a mark of performance, beginning right from its styling. The vehicle sees an aerodynamical correction to improvise better airflow throughout the wheel-arch extensions of the car. It is responsible to set a drag coefficient of just 0.26 on the Sportback. Interestingly, Audi also marks a vision for their EV performance by providing the S variant with a controllable air inlet that manages the cooling of its brakes by giving way to increased airflow inside the car.

The newly introduced variant also rides on new wheel-arch extensions that increase the dimensions by 50 mm, adding to the width of the car. The automaker has laid final touches to the sporty appeal of the S trim by adding unique front and rear bumpers with silver detailing. Users also get the option to select between 21-inch and 22-inch wheel options.

As mention earlier, the car runs on a three-motor setup, two of which are mounted on the rear axle while one at the front. The resultant output is 503 horsepower and 974 Nm of peak torque that lasts for eight-second boost periods. To further add on to the total delivery of the car, Audi has also tuned the S variants with adaptive air suspension that can alter the ride height anywhere between 76 mm. Also, the car gets progressive steering besides braking on six-piston calipers at the front.

On the inside, Audi’s S variant is a bit broader, thanks to the 50 mm added wideness via wheel arch extensions. The smartly-designed cabin space remains the same across the e-tron and Sportback with the dark and light hues touches and silver accents. The dashboard of the car and door trim get brushed aluminum touches as standard, while optional carbon fibre comes as optional.

The S models are expected to hit the European market in fall 2020.
