Suzuki Jimny comes back to Europe as a two-seater LCV

Suzuki has reintroduced its Jimny as a two-seater model in Europe. The automaker made all the speculations accurate by removing the original five-seater format of the car and bring it as a light commercial vehicle.  

Previously, Jimny was facing issues over its CO2 emissions in the country. However, Suzuki was successful in finding a loophole around the contract that helped in the model’s return. However, making its way back to Europe required sacrifices. 

The fourth-generation Jimny is now a commercial vehicle. By re-badging the Jimny as an LCV, the vehicle is entitled to a less stringent European Union fleet to an average target figure (147 g/km versus 95 g/km for passenger cars), making the carmaker to pay less on potential European Union fines.

Talking about the modifications, there has not been much change besides its interior. The Jimny continues to be powered by a K15B 1.5L naturally-aspirated VVT engine, churning out a maximum power output of 102 hp besides generating a peak torque of 130 Nm. The powertrain is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Suspension wise, the car remains the same with its three-link rigid axle setup. 

All the changes lie inside the Jimny where the cabin has been revamped with two-seats, removing the additional rear seats. The cabin space now comprises a flat cargo area with a massive 863 litres of space. Additionally, there’s a safety partition that blocks the cargo from merging with the cockpit.

The new Suzuki Jimny also retains its safety features that include dual sensor brake support with automatic emergency braking, descent control, and the eCall emergency assist function. However, the price of the new Jimny is yet to be revealed. The previous passenger version was offered at a price of £15,370 in the UK.

The fourth-gen Jimny has made its way to Singapore shores last year, which is priced at $114,100.
