Suzuki Ignis

The cabin of the Suzuki Ignis has the same level of uniqueness and funkiness as the exterior design. However, the overall layout isn’t too quirky and dramatic as the exterior design. The cabin has an all-black finish, with the dashboard having clean lines and a different-looking arrangement for the bits on the inside.

The Suzuki Ignis gets a multi-functional steering wheel with V-shaped silver garnish on the spokes and a compact instrument console with theatre-like lighting on the top and a small 4.2-inch MID in its right corner. It is the centre console that catches your attention in the cabin of the Suzuki Ignis, with a large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with piano black surrounds flanked by rectangular AC vents on its sides.

The lower part of the centre console has a very unique looking panel for automatic climate control, which has aircraft-like toggle switches for various controls. The corners of the dashboard are adorned with rounded AC vents. The Ignis also gets some handy features like a push start-stop button, driver seat height adjustment and tilt-adjustable steering wheel.

The Suzuki Ignis has one of the most unique and quirky looking designs in the compact vehicle segment. While this design looks appealing to many with funky colour options on offer, the angular lines and unconventional rear design make the car look odd to some people.

Nevertheless, the front profile of the Suzuki Ignis looks cutesy with a wide-looking fascia, which comprises a sleek rectangular grille with a Suzuki logo in the middle and two U-shaped chrome inserts on its sides. The corners of this front fascia get large headlamp units, which comprise U-shaped daytime running LEDs and LED projectors for the main headlamps. The front bumper of the car, with large silver skid plates and squared housings for the fog lamps, makes the car look tough when viewed head-on.

When the Suzuki Ignis is viewed from the sides, the car looks sharp with sharp angles for the rear quarter glass and pillars. The Ignis is blessed with a couple of unique design highlights on the side, such as flared wheel arches, which are uncommon in small hatchbacks, and triple slats on the wide C-pillar. The Suzuki Ignis comes with a clamshell hood, which has a small blacked-out element on the sides, and roof rails, which give the car an SUV-ish look.

It is the rear profile of the Suzuki Ignis which draws different opinions from different minds. The flared wheel arches make the Ignis look wide from the rear, while the rakish rear windscreen adds visual drama here. The Suzuki Ignis gets small tail lamps with tapered inner edges and a heavy-looking rear bumper with a silver skid plate at the bottom.

Despite having a high ground clearance of 180 mm and a tallboy stance and design, the Suzuki Ignis is a fun car to drive around corners. The steering feels light at low speeds, but precise when the speeds rise. The space levels on the inside too are very impressive, despite having tight dimensions. However, the car has a slight stiffness in its ride quality, especially at higher speeds.

The Suzuki Ignis shares its 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated Dualjet petrol engine with the Swift, and here in the Ignis too, this engine is paired to a mild-hybrid system. Coupled with a CVT gearbox as standard transmission, the engine produces 80 bhp of maximum power and 107 Nm of peak torque output.

In the Singapore market, the Suzuki Ignis comes with a decent list of safety equipment like the front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors with a camera.

While the overall design and feel of the Suzuki Ignis is a sort of ‘love-it-or-hate-it’ affair, it feels impressive in its overall mechanical setup. All in all, the Suzuki Ignis is a car that the younger car audience should have on their consideration lists.
