Volkswagen Tiguan R now available to order in Europe

The German multinational automotive manufacturer, Volkswagen has revealed the first-ever Tiguan R. The Tiguan is one of the brand’s most popular midsize SUVs and it now gets a high-performance R kit, which gives dual characteristics to the vehicle - variability of an SUV and dynamic performance of a sports car.

Talking about the exterior design, the additional elements include wing mirror caps in matte chrome, bumpers in an R design with aerodynamic elements that are covered in high-gloss black or body color, black wheel housing extensions, a unique rear diffuser in gloss black, and 20-inch Misano alloys. The optional list includes 21 inches Estoril alloys and a titanium exhaust system from Akrapovic.

Opening the hood, you get the latest generation of the 2.0-litre turbo-four engine, which can also be seen in the latest Mk8 Golf R. The motor is an “evo4” TSI unit, which is capable of churning out a maximum power of 320 PS and a peak torque of 420 Nm. The power is sent to all the wheels via a DQ500 seven-speed DSG gearbox. The performance figures are excellent as it can achieve 0-100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds, which is just two-tenth slower when compared to the smaller Golf R.

Getting inside the car, you get sports seats with the R logo along with integrated head restraints. Other elements include stainless steel pedals, a customized digital cockpit, illuminated by background lighting, and R-specific decorative trim in Carbon Grey. The R logos present in the aluminum front sill strips are also illuminated.

For the first time, VW has come up with a rear final drive system with two multi-plate clutches, which will not only send the drive power to the front and rear axles but will also distribute it between the left and right rear wheels. The brand claims that with the improved handling and hails, the Tiguan R will set a new benchmark for SUV driving dynamics.
