BMW Z4

From the inside, the BMW Z4 now looks much more in line with other BMWs in terms of cabin layout and features on offer. The all-black cabin can be had with three different trim options for the door panels and center console – quartz silver, high gloss black, and aluminum mesh effect.

The cabin impresses one with its futuristic-looking elements like a full TFT instrument console, a wide touchscreen infotainment system enclosed in a hexagonal housing, and a classy looking wide panel for the automatic climate control buttons. The cabin features some top-notch features like six different colors for ambient lighting, a premium Harman Kardon audio system, and fully adjustable and ventilated sport seats with integrated headrests. 

The BMW Z4 proves to be one attention magnet with its smooth and curvy lines and low slung stance. This latest iteration of the BMW Z4 takes that very trait of the car with an added sense of aggression reminiscent of higher-spec sports cars, something which was missing a bit in the previous iteration. 

Talking about the front fascia of the BMW Z4, it manages to look a bit different from other BMWs, thanks to the heavily tweaked double kidney grille, which looks much sharper and wider with their hexagonal patterns. Also different in the BMW Z4 as compared to other of its stablemates is the design of the headlamps – here they follow a sweptback design and are blessed with characteristic LED lights within them.

The best angle to look at the BMW Z4 from has to be the side profile, which in this iteration has been tweaked a lot to make it look longer and even more stylish than ever before. A sharp character line flowing across the doors and blending in the boot lid adds to the sense of continuity, whereas the large air vent recessed in the front fender adds to the aerodynamic purpose as well as the visual drama of the car.

The rear profile of the BMW Z4 manages to get a wide stance, thanks to the super sleek LED tail lamps laid out in a horizontal manner with their sweptback design.  The high loading lip, as well as the big rear bumper with the blacked-out bottom portion, makes the Z4 look quite tasteful from the rear.

The BMW Z4 not only looks sporty, but has the real mettle behind the steering wheel as well. The two seat roadster is bestowed with top-spec adaptive M suspension, the settings of which can be adjusted through the Driving Experience Control. Along with this, it also gets M Sport differential, M Sport brakes and variable sport steering, which gradually is becoming part of standard equipment in the M Sport variants of all the cars.

The BMW Z4 is sold in Singapore with just one petrol automatic powertrain as standard, which here is a 2.0-litre four cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Channeling all the power to the rear wheels, this engine pumps out a maximum power output of 196 PS and a peak torque output of 320 Nm.

The long list of standard safety features in the BMW Z4 includes front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability control, electronic differential lock, traction control, hill descent control, hill start assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring system, pedestrian detection system, front and rear parking sensors and 360-degree parking camera.

Carving a niche of its own, the BMW Z4 is a lone player in its territory by offering the exclusivity of a two seater convertible sports car, which has a much more friendlier yet enthusiastic performance levels and driving appeal when one is seated behind the steering wheel.
